A Truro man was killed and his co-worker was injured Tuesday, July 1, when a 10-foot deep ditch caved in where work was being done on a sewer line in Truro.
Richard W. Hall, 30, of Truro was killed in the accident. His co-worker was the Rev. Richard Hempenius, also of Truro. Both men were employed by Lytton Plumbing and Heating Co. of Truro.
Services for Richard Wayne Hall were held, Saturday, July 5, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Truro, with the Rev. Eldon Ringle of St. Charles officiating. Interment was at the Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
He was born on December 7, 1944, at Knoxville, the son of Alberta Kendrick Hall and Glen Hall. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School and Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, Missouri.
On December 18, 1965, he was united in marriage to Barbara Van Vark in Knoxville. Two children were born to this union.
Richard was a resident of Truro and taught science at the Interstate 35 High School. He was a member of the Truro City Council, an advisor for the Boy Scouts, a member of the Truro Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Lion’s Club.
He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church in Truro.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Truro; son, Todd and daughter, Melissa at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hall; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Kendrick; brother, Ronald Hall; sister, Rebecca Smith, all of Knoxville; and sister Beverly Sanderson of Dallas, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.

Richard Wayne Hall, a science teacher at I-35 High School, was killed Tuesday, July 1, 1975 when the excavation ditch in which he was working at Truro for the Lytton Plumbing and Heating Company of Truro collapsed. He was 30 years of age.
Mr. Hall was born December 7, 1944 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Glen Hall and Alberta Kendrick Hall. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School and Northwest Missouri State College and a resident of Truro at the time of his death.
The marriage of Richard Hall and Barbara VanVark took place on December 18, 1965, in Knoxville, Iowa. The couple had two children.
Mr. Hall was active in Truro social and civic affairs, serving as Truro city councilman, a volunteer fireman and a Boy Scout advisor. He was also a member of the Truro Lions Club. Mr. Hall was affiliated with the United Methodist Church of Truro.
Surviving Mr. Hall is his wife, Barbara, of Truro; his son Todd, and daughter, Melissa. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hall of Knoxville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Kendrick of Knoxville, Iowa, the maternal grandparents and one brother, Ronald Hall of Knoxville, Iowa. Two sisters survive Mr. Hall. They are Beverly Sanderson of Dallas, Iowa, and Rebecca Smith of Knoxville, Iowa.
Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.
Funeral services for Richard Hall were conducted Saturday, July 5, 1975 at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Truro with burial at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa. The Rev. Eldon Ringle of St. Charles, Iowa, officiated.
