Page 8, Column 4Mrs. Lynn Hower Dies Here at 80
Mrs. William Hower, 80, who had lived in Creston since 1924, died at the Greater Community hospital here at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Her death followed a two-year illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist church here. Rev. Myron Hayes, a former pastor of the church, will officiate, and will be assisted by Rev. Azel L. Smith, the pastor. Burial will in the Jerusalem cemetery. Her family will be at the Keating and Beemer funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Rebekah services will be held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Lynn E. Porter was born in Madison county, August 14, 1881. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Porter. She was married at Afton, July 3, 1900, to William Hower, who preceded her in death June 30, 1953.
Mrs. Hower is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Fern) Witt of Macksburg and Bernice Hower of Wilwaukee, Wis.; a son, Gail Hower of Creston; five brothers, Glenn and Vernon Porter of Garven, Okla., Tom Porter of Oklahoma City, Okla., Earl Porter of Powers, Ore., and Ralph Porter of Lawton, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. Nona Mahoney in New Hampshire; and two granddaughters.
Mrs. Hower had lived in Madison, Adair and Union counties all her life. Her husband was Union county deputy sheriff for many years until his retirement a few years before his death.
Mrs. Hower was a member of the Methodist church and was a 50-year member of the Rebekah lodge.
