James W. Porter was born in Washington County, Indiana, April 27th, 1857, and died at Lahoma, March 12th, 1916. He leaves a wife, five children, two brothers and three sisters to mourn his loss.

He was married to Susan Calloway April 5th, 1874, and to them was born seven children five of whom are still living, viz: J. C. Porter of Hinton, Oklahoma, Lewis and James of Lahoma, Mrs. Mary Hogland of Hinton and Mrs. Ola Lewis of Hydro. Mr. Porter was converted in 1913, at East Peru, Iowa, where he joined the M. E. church and has been a true member ever since and willing to go when his Master called him.

In 1861 Mr. Porter moved from his birth place to Madison County, Iowa, and in 1882 to Clinton County, Missouri. In 1900 he moved to Canadian County, Oklahoma, and from there to Cado County. In 1914 he moved to Iowa and shortly thereafter to Lahoma, Oklahoma, where he remained until death. He was laid to rest in the Hinton Cemetery, the funeral services being preached by Rev. James of the M. E. Church.
