Shirley Jean Anker, 91, of Earlham passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, March 23rd at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 24th at the Earlham United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Earlham Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Earlham Rescue Unit, Earlham Methodist Church or the Stuart Community Care Center Foundation; donations may be sent in care of the Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 119, Earlham, Iowa 50250.
Shirley was born on July 1, 1926 to Frank and Bess (Smith) Clampitt in Madison County, Iowa. She grew up on a farm, east of Earlham. She attended Earlham Community Schools and graduated from Earlham High School with the Class of 1944. On December 8, 1946 she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Anker in Earlham. To this union two daughters were born, Nancy and Elizabeth. The family made their home on an acreage north of Earlham. She worked as a secretary for the Earlham Medical Center and AO Smith Construction; retiring after 56 years. She also assisted at the Young Explorers Day Care after her retirement.
Shirley was a member of the Earlham United Methodist Church, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Earlham Chautuaqua Club. In her spare time she enjoyed shopping, attending club functions and helping anyone in need. Although her greatest sense of joy came from time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished each and every one of them in a unique way.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Mel) Vaughn.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 71 years, Charles of Earlham; daughters, Nancy (Cliff) Johnson of Waterloo and Elizabeth (Mark) Earhart of Stuart; grandchildren: Jeffery (Alice) Englin, Shannon (Jeff) Dole, Daniel (Heather) Englin, Michael (Heather) Englin, J.B. (Kerri) Barnhouse, Kate (Matt) Milllage; great-grandchildren: Anna Englin, Joshua Englin, Isabella Dole, Delaney Dole, Sam Englin, Mia Englin, Jack Englin, Lauren Englin, Jane Barnhouse, Charlie Barnhouse, Sophia Millage, Max Millage, and Cyrus Millage; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
