Duane Bennett

Duane Bennett, 60, of Mexico, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, Barnes Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Chariton, Iowa on September 3, 1957, the son of Evelyn (Goben) Bennett and the late Carl Bennett.

On July 15, 2017, Duane was united in marriage to Rebecca (Vandeloecht) Moppin Bennett. She survives his passing.

Duane was raised on a farm north of Promise City, Iowa. He graduated from High School in Seymour, Iowa. He continued his education at Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma, Beta Chapter. He spent his life educating young minds, beginning his career in Ida Grove, Iowa. He was later an Ag Teacher in Earlham, Ia., the Principal at Harrisburg, Vo-Tech Director at Mexico Hart Career Center, Superintendent at Wellsville, Middleton, and most recently Superintendent at Durant Community School District in Iowa. Duane was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Football fan. He enjoyed his time spent on his cattle farm and at the family lake house. Duane was most proud of his wife and daughter, education, and his work.

Duane’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Rebecca; daughter, Rebecca “Kate” Bennett; step-children, Jeffree Tanner Moppin, Pake Michael Moppin, and Emily Grace Moppin; mother, Evelyn Bennett of Corydon, Ia.; brothers, Daniel Bennett (Nancy) of Centerville, Ia., David Bennett (Cheryl) of Sellersburg, In., Donald Bennett (Debbie) of Arena, Wi., Daryl Bennett (Kathy) of San Antonio, Tx.; sister, Carla Gall (Brian) of State Center, Ia.; in-laws, Donnie and Linda Vandeloecht of Kingdom City; brother-in-law, Louis Vandeloecht (Francine) of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.

Duane was preceded in death by his father, Carl Bennett.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Kent Henry officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Maupin Funeral Home. Interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

Memorial donations are suggested to Maupin Funeral Home for a trust fund that will be set up for Kate, and can be sent to 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.
