John Kline, 81, of Afton, died Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. Open memorial gathering with family receiving friends will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time Saturday March 17, 2018 at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday March 17, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Flag presentation will be conducted by Theodore J. Marten's VFW Post #1797 of Creston and Afton. A memorial service with burial to follow will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln, Neb on Friday March 16, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Afton Fire and Rescue.

John Howard Kline, son of Eula Marie (Clem) and Homer Harmon Kline, was born May 26, 1936 in Afton, Iowa. John worked for Everds Brothers Blacktop Services during summers while in high school. Following graduation from Afton High School in 1954, he entered the United States Army serving three years in Germany. Upon discharge from the Army, John enrolled at the University of Iowa and received his Bachelor's Degree. John managed the Lincoln Orthopedic Clinic in Lincoln, Neb. for 35 years. He was an avid Nebraska football fan and enjoyed watching all football and basketball games and P.G.A. golf.

John married Connie Nelson in Winterset in 1959. They made their home in Lincoln, Neb. Their children were Brad, Mary and Doug. He married Mary Driskill in Murray, Ia. in 1999 and they resided in Afton, Ia. John and Mary enjoyed their years together traveling, going out to eat near and far with friends and doing crossword puzzles. John enjoyed the early morning coffee group for 18 years and he read meters for SIRWA for several years during his retirement. John served on the Afton City Council, the Afton Care Center Board and the Lakeshore Golf and Country Club Board.

Survivors include his wife Mary of Afton; children, Brad (wife Deanna) Kline of Keokuk, Ia., Mary (husband Tim) Sheehan of Omaha, Neb., Doug (wife Diana) Kline of Omaha, Neb., Les (wife Holly) Driskill of Virginia City, Mont., Shawn (husband Steve) Roberts of Ames, Ia., Aaron (wife Kasha) Driskill of Billings, Mo.; grandchildren, Jon Kline, Abby (husband Logan) Granera and Drew Kline, Halle and Hanna Sheehan, Sam and Max Kline, Barrett and Cale Driskill, Eliza (husband Tom) Malloy, Seeley Driskill, Kean Roberts, Austin and Hunter Driskill; sister-in-law Shirley Kline of Algona, Ia. and many friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Connie Kline and a brother Chuck Kline.

The family would like to thank everyone for their many acts of kindness and expressions of sympathy.
