Page 7, Panora NewsIda S. Abbott, daughter of Commodore P. Abbott and Rebecca Denney Abbott, was born June 30, 1872 in Brown county, Ohio, and died Sunday, May 11, 1958 in the France Nursing Home near Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, Iowa at the age of 85 years.
She was married in 1892 to George Z. Smith, a native of Ohio. They made their home on a farm in Madison County, Iowa, until 1920 when they moved to Guthrie County.
Mrs. Smith was a life-long member of the Methodist church and served many years as Superintendent of the Sunday School. She was a tireless, enthusiastic Farm Bureau member and held the office of County Chairman of the Women’s Division in Guthrie County for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Herbert L. Smith of Panora and George M. Smith of Fremont, Nebr.; a daughter, Mrs. H. C. Roe (Esther) of Lafayette, Calif.; five grandchildren, Sherwood Smith of Iowa City, Ia., Mrs. Richard Van Cise of Barcelona, Spain, Jean, Joan and Tommy Smith of Fremont, Nebr., and one great grandchild, Kendric Taylor Van Cise of Barcelona, Spain. Two infant children, her husband, a brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 at the Beidelman Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Moore, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Interment was at the Moon cemetery at Macksburg, Madison county, Iowa. Casket bearers were Elbert Haden, Russell Newport, A. B. Blackman, Earl Tucker, Harley Erb and Carl Batschelet.
