Funeral services for Joseph M. Wolf, 88, of Panora, who died at his home Sunday, were held at the Methodist church in Panora Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Thomas Peppas, pastor of the Church of Christ, in charge.
Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Barcus, Mrs. Bert Kerr and Rev. M. V. Rogers, with Mrs. Ruth Robinson accompanying at the piano.
Casket bearers were Floyd Wolf, Lawrence Wolf, Samuel Wolf, Earl Wolf, Ted Wolf and Albert Clark. Interment was made in the Brethren cemetery at Panora.
Joseph Melvin Wolf, son of Otho and Elizabeth Wolf, was born April 7, 1858, at Winterset, Iowa, in Madison county and died at his home on January 5, 1947, at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 28 days.
He was united in marriage to Jennie May Oaken March 24, 1886. To this union six sons and four daughters were born. He moved to a farm near Rippey while he was still a young lad. In the spring of 1902 he took his family to a farm north of Panora which became the home place now occupied by one of his sons. There he lived until he retired in 1920 when he moved to Panora, where he lived until his health failed a couple of years ago, causing him to reside with his children until his death.
He had attended the Methodist church and at one time was a member of the I.O.O.F.
He was preceded in death by his wife who died April 18, 1934, and one son, Irvin, who died April 12, 1943. All of his remaining children were at his bedside except one daughter of Wheatfield, Ind.
Surviving are his sons Floyd and Ted of Panora; Lawrence of Bayard; Sam of Jefferson; Earl of Scranton; his daughters, Mrs. Mattie Jacobs of Wheatfield, Ind., Mrs. Myrtle Clark of Yale, Mrs. Nettie Tolle of Dawson and Mrs. Faye Moore of Perry; 25 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
