Page 1, Column 2FORMER STUART RESIDENT BURIED HERE
A short service was held at the cemetery Wednesday afternoon when Mrs. Christy A. Shepard, who died in Des Moines Monday, was buried.
Funeral services had been held from Dunn’s funeral home in Des Moines earlier in the day.
Mrs. Shepard was 93 years old and died after a week’s illness. She retained all of her faculties up to the last.
Mrs. Shepard was the widow of W. W. Shepard, who died in Stuart in 1902. He was a civil war veteran and was a lieutenant during the war.
The family lived east of Stuart on a farm and later moved to town and occupied the Herb Smith residence property.
Mrs. Shepard was one of the real pioneers of Iowa, having come to the state in a covered wagon in 1853. Her family kept the stage station at Grove City, which was near Atlantic.
Two sons survive their mother, Ray Shepard of Atlantic and Chancy A., of Council, Idaho.
Ray Shepard and family were present here at the services.
