Kenneth Knight
February 20, 1938 ~ December 9, 2017 (age 79)

Kenneth LeRoy Knight joined our Lord and Savior on December 9, 2017. He was born in Waterloo, Iowa on February 20, 1938, to Harriet Garmon and Donald Knight.

He is survived by his best friend and wife of 58 years, Marilyn Kay Knight; daughters, Vickilee Einhellig (fiancé Dan), Roilynn Knight Clarkson, and Nikole Knight Erickson (spouse Steve); grandchildren, Audrey Einhellig, Naomi Einhellig, Jake Clarkson, Avery Clarkson, Evan Erickson, Isaac Erickson; and his brother, Van Garmon (spouse Charlotte).

LeRoy graduated from Winterset High School in 1956. He was an excellent athlete and well known for his accomplishments in basketball and track. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Marilyn Lamb, on September 5, 1959.

The two started their family in 1964, in Arizona, with the birth of Vickilee, but returned to Iowa shortly after to be closer to family.

While LeRoy had always wanted five boys, to have his own basketball team, he thrived as a softball coach for his three girls over the years. He spent countless hours, practicing pitching and hitting ground balls to his girls in the backyard. He was a devoted and dedicated father.

LeRoy’s passions included fitness, traveling, conquering blackjack, and dining out. The family would often take trips together to Las Vegas, Nevada where all four could be achieved. Other memorable trips included Hawaii, California, and Arizona. These were magical trips for the family; even with the children grown, everyone still loved to vacation together.

LeRoy faced all his battles with strength. He survived both lung and brain cancer and was cancer free for over eighteen years. His doctors often referred to him as their miracle patient.

LeRoy was a quiet and caring soul and a blessing to all that knew him. His presence brightened the world and the lives of those who loved him.
