IndianolaServices for Alvin Cumings, 85, who passed away Friday, August 5, 2005 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with Rev. John Long officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Alvin was born in Patterson, IA and served in the United States Army receiving the purple heart during World War II. He returned to Warren County and farmed in the Prole farming community from 1945 until moving to Indianola in 1993.
He was a member of Linn Grove United Methodist Church, American Legion Post and V.F.W. in Indianola, D.A.V. and also 40 & 8. Alvin was active with the state and national levels of the Veterans Associations.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Linda (Ken) Ballard of New Virginia; son, David (Kathy) Cumings of Prole; sister, Betty Lou Green of Truro; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Jason Cumings.
Visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 8 with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Indianola Fire & Rescue Department or Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.
