Fred Scott Is Heart Victim

74-Year-Old Former Baker Stricken Suddenly At Home

Fred Scott, 74-year-old retired Osceola baker, died unexpectedly early Friday when he was stricken with a heart attack at his home here. He had apparently made a strong recovery from recent surgery when he was stricken.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock this Tuesday afternoon in the Miller Funeral home with Rev. Warren Hile, pastor of the Christian church, officiating. Burial was in the Maple Hill cemetery.

The son of Porterfield and Maggie Viney Scott, he was born May 14, 1884, near St. Charles. On Dec. 22, 1910, he was united in marriage with Edna Thomas.

After several years in Nebraska, he returned to Osceola and operated the Osceola Ice company for a number of years. He was employed as a baker at the Clarke County Bakery for 15 years before his retirement.

Surviving are his widow; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Greathouse of Holyoke, Colo., Mrs. Bessie Bond of Nortonville, Kans., and Mrs. Wilma Summerville of Nevada; two brothers, Jesse of Libertyville, Ill., and Edward of Paramont, Calif.

Fred Scott, son of Porterfield and Maggie Viney Scott, was born near St. Charles, Iowa, May 14, 1884. He died suddenly at his home in Osceola, Saturday morning, May 3, 1958, eleven days short of his 74th birthday.

He owned and operated the Osceola Ice Company for a number of years. For 16 years prior to his retirement he served as a baker for the Clarke County Bakery.

On December 22, 1910 he was married to Edna Thomas.

His mother passed away when he was 15 years old. It was several years after her death that his father died.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Greathouse, Holyoke, Colo., Mrs. Bessie Bond of Nortonville, Kans., and Mrs. Wilma Summerville of Carson City, Nevada; two brothers, Jesse Scott of Libertyville, Ill., and Ed Scott of Paramont, California.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Warren HIle at the Miller Funeral home Tuesday, May 6, 1958 at 2 o’clock. Music was furnished by Emil Rinderspacher with Ruth Ellen Harlan at the piano. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery.
