Des MoinesRalph Brooker, 78, of the 3100 block of Southwest 13th Place died of kidney cancer Monday at Hospice Kavanagh House. The body was cremated, and a memorial gathering will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Italian-American Cultural Center.
Mr. Brooker was born in Winterset and had lived in Des Moines all his life. He was a retired permit officer with the Iowa Department of Transportation and an Army veteran.
He is survived by three sons, Dennis of Derby, Marty of Runnells and Bryan of Des Moines; a daughter, Denise Weyant of Marshalltown; a brother, Herbert of Indianola; two sisters, Darlene Fundinger of Grand Junction, Colo., and Madeline Bennett of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Jurgenson Brooker.
Hamilton’s Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
