Carl Wilber Woods, son of George and Clara Woods, was born on May 10, 1885, in Madison county, Iowa, and passed away on August 21, 1963 in the Clarke county hospital in Osceola. He was 78 years, 3 months, and 11 days of age at the time of his death.

As a young boy, he was educated in the schools of Madison and Clarke counties, and in 1905 moved to Green county, Iowa. On Jan. 14, 1909, he was united in marriage to Mary C. Roberts, and to this union eight children were born.

In 1922, Carl and his family moved to Clarke county, and he resided here for the remainder of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife who passed away on April 30, 1955; three sons, Warren, Earle, and Wilber; two daughters, Muriel and Wilma Stout; and one brother Orville.

He is survived by two sons, Paul of Murray, and Lowell of Des Moines; one daughter, Jean Porterfield of Tucson, Arizona; one brother, Ray of Murray; two daughter-in-law; one son-in-law; thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a great host of relatives and friends.

As a young man, Carl was received into membership in the Madison Chapel Church in Clarke county. He was a farmer all of his life, and was a good steward of the Lord’s earth. Carl was always active in his community as long as his health permitted, and was a good neighbor and wonderful father and husband.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Aug. 24, in the Murray Methodist church with Rev. Tom Harlan, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Murray cemetery.
