Mrs. Sowash Dies at Age 89

55-Year Resident of Clarke County Died Here on Saturday

Mrs. Laura Z. Sowash, 89-year-old resident of Clarke county for more than half a century, died Saturday at a nursing home in Osceola. She had been in failing health for some time.

Funeral services were held at 10 o’clock Monday morning in the Webster Funeral Home with Rev. H. G. Arink, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was in the Maple Hill cemetery.

The daughter of William and Araminta DeBord Doan, she was born Jan. 3, 1871, in Madison county, Iowa. She was educated and grew to young womanhood in that county.

On Dec. 25, 1896, she became the bride of Frank Sowash at Patterson and he preceded her in death. They were the parents of two children.

The family moved to Clarke county 55 years ago and Mrs. Sowash was a member of the Presbyterian church.

Surviving are: one daughter, Lucille Lingle of Creston; three grandchildren, Cliff Sowash, Jr., Dorothy White and Mildred Giannoble; two great grandsons, Rodney White and Richard Giannoble, and one sister, Edna Clark.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Clifton; three brothers and one sister.
