Page 2, Column 3Mrs. Belle Seevers Garlinger, formerly of this county, but recently of Excelsior Springs, Mo., died at her home on Nov. 8th, after an illness of one week. Mrs. Garlinger was the daughter of Alfred and Maria Bryan Seevers and was born at Oskaloosa, Iowa, Jan. 24, 1845.
Her parents were pioneers of Mahaska county, where she grew to womanhood. She was one of a family of twelve children, all of whom have preceded her in death, except her sister, Mrs. Ella Newlen of Butler, Mo., and her brother Burns Seevers of Kearney, both of whom were with her at the time of her death.
During civil war days, the family moved to Madison county, Iowa, and the name of Mrs. Garlinger and also the names of her father’s family are linked with the early history of both Mahaska and Madison counties, and to this fact are largely due the energy and industry in her character.
She was married here to Joseph E. Garlinger, who passed away many years ago. With her daughter she has lived in Excelsior Spring for the past 18 years taking an interest in all local and civic happenings, until a few days before death called her.
Funeral services were held at the home, Nov. 10th, conducted by Rev. J. P. Jesse and interment made in Crown Hill cemetery.
