Georgie Palmer Bryant, daughter of Robert and Ethel Osborn Palmer, was born Feb. 22, 1908 at Peru. She passed away April 16, 2009, at Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola, at the age of 101 years.

Georgie received her education in Barney country school and in Clarke County Fremont school. She was united in marriage to Harry Bryant on Sept. 8, 1928, at Indianola, and two daughters, Alberta and Lois, were born to this union.

Georgie was raised on a farm and was a farmer’s wife. After Harry’s death in 1954, Georgie moved to Osceola and worked as a Nurse’s aid in Dr. Stroys Nursing Home (over 8 years), Dr. Harkens Nursing Home (2 years), Osceola Leisure Manor (1 year), and in the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Cole (11 years), she retired in 1980.

Georgie’s hobby was making afghans and embroidering. She was a member of Fremont Ladies Aid.

Preceding Georgie in death were her parents; husband; brother, Elwood “Bus” Palmer; sister, Hazel Fouche, daughter, Alberta Werner; two grandsons, Merlyn Graham and Darrell Graham, two great-granddaughters in infancy, Chasity Graham and Shannon Graham; sons-in-law, Myron McNeal and Robert Vanderbogart.

Georgie is survived by her daughter, Lois McNeal of West Pueblo, Colo., step-son, Ralph Bryant, of Osceola; step-daughter, Isabel Lathrum of Truro, grandchildren, Verlene Stephenson, Roger Graham, Ken McNeal, Steve McNeal, Rhonda Landt, great grandchildren, Justin Stephenson, Josh Stephenson, Sheneil Graham, Summer Graham, Sierra Graham, Chantel Graham, Allison McNeal, Cassandra McNeal, Christina Lemon, Ben McNeal, Sam McNeal, Molly McNeal, five great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at New Virginia Cemetery April 22, 2009, with Rev. Neville Clayton officiating.

Interment followed in the New Virginia cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central Iowa in Osceola.
