Services Friday For C. G. Clifton

86-Year-Old Rural Man Died Tuesday, April 7

Services for Charles G. Clifton, lifelong Clarke county farmer, were held at the Miller Funeral home Friday, April 10, with Rev. Lester Hall of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery.

The following obituary was read at the services:

Charles G. Clifton, pioneer farmer, passed away at the home of his son, W. E. Clifton near Osceola on Tuesday, April 7, 1953, at the age of 86 years.

He was born in Madison County, March 23, 1867, a son of Sylvester and Marie Clifton.

He was married to Vinnie Ellis, October 18, 1894. Three children were born to them: Clarence, Willis and Mrs. Marie Miller, all of Osceola. Mrs. Clifton passed away in 1904. He was married to Arah Sampson in 1907 who passed away in 1922. In 1925 he was married to Lulu Gardner who preceded him in death August 10, 1951.

Mr. Clifton was a member of the Masonic lodge for about 30 years and of the Groveland Methodist church where he kept his membership as long as the church was active.

Beside the tree mentioned children, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Louella Deardorff; two step-daughters, Mrs. Florence McCann and Mrs. Edith Smith; ten grand-children, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
