Rea Marie Kenyon 96, of Guthrie Center, died Sunday, February 26, 2012 in Guthrie Center. A memorial service was held Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in First United Methodist Church, Guthrie Center with Pastor Annette Ruhs Kruse officiating. Vocalist Don Lake and organist Debbie Coffman provided special music.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Rea Mary Kenyon, daughter of Clarence and Anna Sloss Marlow, was born October 12, 1915 in Madison County. She received her three R’s in various schools and high school in Guthrie Center. She taught several years in rural schools throughout Guthrie County.

As a young child, Rea joined the First Christian Church in Guthrie Center, later changing her membership to Wichita United Methodist Church after her marriage where she was an active member and served on various church offices and United Methodist Woman.

On October 9, 1936 she was united in marriage to Walter Leland. They made their home with his parents on the family farm in Seely Township. As her husband farmed, she took care of his parents, aunt, and two uncles for many years. Five children were born to this union. Leland and Rea have lived on the family farm for 59 years, moving to Guthrie Center in 1995.

Rea belonged to US Club, Wichita Birthday Club, and Wichita United Methodist Woman. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, and doing crafts. Over her lifetime, she made over 80 quilts and afghans for her children, grandchildren, brothers, nieces, close friends, and extended families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Richard Walter, grandsons, Scott and Glenn, brothers, Cleo, Herbert, and Quinten, sister, Beulah, and her husband of 67 years, Leland.

Survivors include her children, Robert Leland (Nancee) of Aurora, Colo., Beatrice Mae (Dennis) Sheeder of Guthrie Center, Gregory Nile (Floy) of Guthrie Center, and Sherri Kay (Mark) Enwright of Clinton; grandchildren, Aaron (Rachel) Kenyon, Angie (Brian) McAlister, Mike (Andrea) Kenyon, Quinn Enwright, Kirsten (Greg) Dreiling, great grandchildren, Jared, Conner, and Logan Kenyon, Derek Betts, Isaac, Cora and Eli McAlister, Alyssa and Kaitlyn Kenyon, and Zander Stonehocker, Jessice and Tanner Dreiling, and two lifelong friends, Don Lake and Jaxine Ritchie, both of Guthrie Center.

Twigg Funeral Home of Guthrie Center was in charge of professional arrangements.
