James Edward Denning was born October 27, 1869 in Allamakee county and passed away February 18, 1947 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines.

He came from Allamakee county in a covered wagon when he was eight years old and his family settled in Adair county. He lived there until 1943 when he moved to Madison county. He made his home with his sister Phoebe, until her death in 1936.

James lived alone until he became sick and then he spent a month in the home of his nephew, Irvin Denning, before entering the hospital. He remained in the hospital for three weeks.

Three sisters, Phoebe Jane, Elizabeth Florence Lindsey and Mary Arabella Zeier, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his brother, William Ellsworth, two nephews, Irvin Denning and Charlie Lindsey, and two nieces, Edith Williams and Blanche Gross.

Funeral services were conducted February 21 at the Bufkin Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Clifford Lott, Methodist minister of Menlo, in charge. Bert Russell sang, accompanied by Mrs. Emily Crow.

Interment was in South Oak Grove cemetery, Stuart and casketbearers were Carl and Bert Tyson, Jay McCorkel, Clarence Jones, Jay Valentine and Phillip Umbaugh.
