Dorothy N. Pettit, 76, of Winterset, Iowa, died Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Winterset Care Center North in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, November 11, 2017, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Pastor Kurt Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery at Greenfield, Iowa.

Dorothy was born on February 5, 1941 in Iowa City, IA to Glen and Helen (Lawton) Murphy. She grew up in the Greenfield area and was a 1961 graduate of Greenfield High School. On March 12, 1964 she married Jerry Lee Pettit at Afton, Iowa. To this union were born three children. Dorothy spent most of married life in Madison County and had worked as a waitress at the North Side Cafe, the former Lally’s, and at Hardee’s.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Rick Pettit of Granger; brother, Harvey Starns of Mesa, Arizona; and grandson, Dalton Jacob Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Helen (Lawton) Murphy; husband, Jerry Pettit; son, Steven William Pettit; daughter, Rebecca Jean Pettit; and sister, Inez Jamison.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 7 PM at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM. Memorials may be directed to her family for a future designation.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
