Colon L. Wright was born June 9, 1958, in Winterset and passed from this life Monday, June 19, 2017.
Colon graduated from Winterset Community High School in 1977 and then enlisted in the United States Army. Colon served seven years in the United States Army in which he was trained in Abrams tanks repairs as a diesel mechanic as well as power generators. Colon spent three-and-a-half years in Frankfurt, Germany, and was then transferred to Fort Collins, Colorado, until he ended his career with the United States Army. Colon remained and worked in Colorado for several years. Colon moved back to Iowa and gained talent in the carpentry trades while spending the last 18 years working for A Tech Easy Living in Des Moines.
Colon loved to go fishing and was an avid fan of dogs, especially Bender, a Border Collie mix with whom he played Frisbee daily. Other hobbies included camping, home repairs and helping family when he could.
Colon will be greatly missed by many. His mother Norine Wright, step-father David Wright, brother Gary Wright, as well as both maternal and paternal grandparents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his father Gene Gunter (Lana) of Van Wert; brothers, Ralph Wright (Jeannette Leeps) of Murray and William Wright of Winterset; sisters, Shelley Bradford (Robin) of Garden Grove and Tami Thomas (Scott) of Murray; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any donations be made in Colon’s name to Clarke County Freedom Rock, 1289 Forest St., Murray, IA 50174.
