CHAS. C. ALLEN C.B.& Q. ENGINEER TAKEN SUDDENLY

Well Known and Long Time Employs of Centerville Division Stricken at Brookfield, Mo.

After completing a run to Brookfield, Mo., Saturday evening as engineer on a C. B. & Q. local freight, Chas C. Allen, 53, well known resident of this city and long time railroad employe, died suddenly of a heart attack at 7:30 o’clock while in the downtown residence district of the Missouri city.

Mr. Allen was apparently in excellent health and had no warning of any kind of his impending death and after completing his run had eaten dinner and was doing some shopping when stricken. Doctors were summoned, including the railroad company doctor, but death had taken place.

Born in Iowa

The deceased was born in Peru, Iowa, and lived there until reaching young manhood. In 1908 he went on a visit to Van Wert, Iowa, and while there sought and obtained railroad employment with the Burlington. That was the beginning of 30 years of service.

On February 28, 1910, he united in marriage with Clella Thompson at Osceola, Iowa and to this union six children were born, who are: Vern, of Burlington, Darwin, Maurice, Wilbur, Beuuah, and Mrs. Pauline Russell, all of Centerville. In addition to his wife and children Mr. Allen is survived by two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Tom Hannon, Mrs. Chas. Burgum, and Robert Allen, of Des Moines. A brother-in-law, Edmund Simmons, now here, from Fulton, Kansas, and two grandchildren, Alice Jean Allen, and Robert Lee Russell.

Mr. Allen moved from Van Wert to Centerville early in his railroading career and later to Burlington. However, ten years ago he had moved back to this city where he resided until the time of his death.

Church Member

He was a member of the Central Church of Christ, the Fidelity Life Association, the Brotherhood of Railroad Locomotive Engineers and Firemen and was well known and liked over the city and division. His death comes as a severe shock and sorrow to a wide circle of relatives and friends.

Funeral services are held from the Central Church of Christ this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock with Dr. H. E. Trimble, pastor, officiating and burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

Mr. Allen’s death is the third of well known Centerville community residents, within the past week, all of whom were taken in much the same manner, death coming without warning and apparently with no preceding illness.
