Alexander Leeper, after bravely battling with disease for several years, died Saturday morning of cancer. He was buried Sunday afternoon at Fairview cemetery, the funeral services being held at Fairview church, conducted by Rev. Briggs of the Congregational church of Stuart. The funeral was largely attended, a number of Odd Fellows and friends from Stuart besides the old neighbors and friends from the neighborhood which was the home of Mr. Leeper and family for many years before they became residents of Stuart were present.

Alexander Leeper was born in Holmes County, Ohio, in 1851. He moved with his parents in his youth to Madison county, Iowa, where he lived till he grew to young manhood. In 1880 he was united in marriage to Susan C. Roads of Adair county, and twenty-four years of his life was spent as a resident of that county. In 1907 he came to reside in Stuart, which was his home till the time of his death.

He was a father of five children, four girls and one boy, one of whom died in infancy and another at the age of fourteen years. The remaining children are Mrs. Frank Shea, Roy and Grace Leeper.

Together with these of his own home and family—the sorrowing widow and the grief stricken children—he leaves to mourn his loss his aged parents, who reside at Dexter, Iowa, both of whom have passed the promised period of four score years, two brothers and two sisters and a multitude of friends who knew him only to love him as a neighbor and a friend.

In young manhood he experienced religion and united with the Methodist Episcopal church. There entered into his very character at that time the element of faith, which cleared the way for many experiences that made life happier and more peaceful. He was an open handed, free hearted friend, kind and considerate of the needs of others and sympathetic and helpful to all in the time of affliction.

A few years ago he became a member of Stuart lodge No. 214 I.O.O.F. and also of Stuart encampment, exemplifying in his daily action his belief in the principles of friendship, love and truth.

And best of all that may be said of Bro Leeper at this time is the fact that he has left behind the testimony of faith in God and confidence that for him all was well for the future. Such a message of hope and good cheer coming from a heart that bore such heavy burdens gives courage to men to fight on in the battle of life.
