Mr. John Imboden was born in Switzerland, December 28, 1839, and died September 14, 1920. At the time of his death he had reached the age of 80 years, 8 months, 16 days. At the age of twelve he came to this country with his parents and made his home with them in Holmes county, Ohio. He was one of six children and at the time of his death was the only survivor of his immediate family. When still a young man he moved to Henry county, Ill. On September 20, 1867, he was married to Margaret Ringgenburg, who departed to the eternal world July 14, 1902. Eight children were born to this happy union, two dying in infancy. Those surviving are: Mrs. Katherine Wilcox of Fargo, N. D.; , John C. Imboden of Elliott, N. D. ; Mrs. Mabel Wood of Elliott, N. D.; Henry M. Imboden of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Nora Laurent of Eagle Grove; Charles S. Imboden of Eagle Grove. All were present at the funeral except John C. Imboden of Elliott, N.D. He is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren.
Mr. Imboden, after his marriage, moved to Iowa, locating first in Madison county, later moving to Polk county and still later moving to Wright county, living here for thirty years and in Eagle Grove for twenty four years. He came to Eagle Grove when this city was a small town located mostly on the east side. Mr. Imboden was, therefore, one of our early settlers — one, of Iowa's pioneers. His last years , were spent with his children, who tenderly cared for him and supplied all his wants especially during his last illness, which was of several months duration. And he was a very patient sufferer. During all his illness he never complained.
In his boyhood he joined the German Lutheran church and was sincere in his belief and a man of prayer. He was honest in his business and always ready to help those who were in need.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his old home at, 303 South Lucas avenue. Rev. H. Fay Tyler preaching the sermon. Interment was in Rosehill cemetery beside his wife.
Those out of town attending the funeral were: Samuel Ringgenburg and family of Sherburn, Minn.; John Ringgenburg and Arthur Ringgenburg of Des Moines; H. A. Ringgenburg of Storm Lake; R. A. Ringgenburg of Newell; Ed Ringgenburg of Lytton; Will Ringgenburg of Sac City and Fred and Roy Imboden of Earlham, Iowa, the latter two being nephews of the deceased.
