Elizabeth Ann Kerns

Elizabeth Ann Kerns, age 91, of Norwalk, Iowa, was born February 7, 1926, at Lorimor, Iowa. She left this life on September 12, 2017, at Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa.

Ann, as she was known, grew up in Lorimor, Iowa and graduated from school there in 1943. On July 1, 1943, she married Merl LeRoy Kerns. They made their home in Macksburg, Iowa and were blessed with four children, Janet Lee, Jon Ersal, Patty Ann, and Mylissa Jo.

Ann was a homemaker to her family, but over the years she also worked as a school teacher, school cook, and as a nurse’s aide. In her free time she enjoyed quilting. She was active in the Macksburg United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Merl, on August 22, 2003; granddaughter, Amy Lynn Kerns; and sister, Paula Roan. Survivors include her children, Janet and Price Brandenburg of Huntsville, Arkansas, Jon and Janet Kerns of Ocala, Florida, Patricia and Steve Dolan of New Virginia, Iowa, and Mylissa and Kerry BeLieu of Indianola, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren plus one on the way; one great, great grandchild plus one on the way; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017, with Rev. Jim Mead officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, 9-10 a.m. at Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, Iowa.
