Claudia Kay Ryner, 65, of Iowa City died Friday, July 28, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where there will be visitation on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Private family graveside services will be held later at the North McDonald Cemetery in Winterset, IA. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Claudia, consider donating money or supplies to the Iowa City Crisis Center. Online condolences may be shared with her family through the web at gayandciha.com.

Claudia Kay Onnen was born September 26, 1951 in Rockwell City, the daughter of Dean E. and Colleen (Gabriel) Onnen. Following graduation from Washington High School in Cherokee, Iowa, she went on to receive her nursing degree (RN) from Broadlawns Polk County Hospital in Des Moines. She later continued her education at DMACC and Iowa State University graduating in 1996 with a GPA of 3.83. She spent most of her working life in the nursing profession in the various fields of eating disorders, mental health, teen and adolescent health, and on the front lines at Planned Parenthood. After Rich died, she took a job with the State of Iowa as Disability Examiner, and took great pride in helping those in need in a prompt and appropriate manner. She and her family have lived in many areas over the years, mostly in the Midwest and most recently Ankeny, North Liberty and Iowa City.

Her family includes her two daughters, Kelly J. Schnoebelen of Iowa City, and Corie D. Frasson (Renato Prata De Moraes, PhD) of Columbus, OH; 3 grandchildren, April Noelle Schnoebelen, Evelina Dayle Schnoebelen, and Richard Ryner Frasson; her brother, Tracy Onnen (Susie); sister, Laurie Jensen (Curt); and their mother, Colleen Onnen Ostrem,

She was preceded in death by her father; husband, Richard Thomas Ryner; and son-in-law, Jay Schnoebelen.
