A Sad Story

Mrs. Caroline A. Stone, wife of Lieut. M. Stone - a brother of the Governor of Iowa - who died from the effects of poison a few days ago, at Winterset, was only 21 years of age, and was married on the 12th of last September. She was a daughter of J. T. French, of Knoxville. The Iowa Voter gives the following particulars of her death:

On Monday the deceased was troubled (sic) with a cold, and her husband went with a physician to a drug store in Winterset, where the physician ordered medicine for her. The druggist, by mistake, instead of the article ordered, handed Mr. Stone a phial containing what proved to be poison - tincture of aconite - a few drops of which is sufficient to destroy life; and Mrs. Stone took a teaspoonful of it. Immediately she complained of feeling very strangely. Alarmed, Mr. Stone hastened for medical aid; and in a very few minutes four physicians were gathered. But their services were of no avail. When Mr. Stone reached the house - within thirty minutes from the time when the poison was taken - Mrs. Stone was on the bed; she threw her arms about her husband's neck, said she felt worse, and fell back a corpse.
