Frank McClelland Services Tuesday

Murray Resident Died at Hospital Here Friday, July 9; Was Buried in Union Cemetery There

Last rites for Frank L. McClelland, 78, a resident of Clarke county for more than 60 years, were held at the Murray Methodist church, Tuesday, July 13 under the direction of Watts funeral service. Rev. Lacey Thompson officiated and burial was in Union cemetery.

Frank Leslie McClelland was a son of Henry and Mary McClelland and was born in Oxford, Iowa, February 27, 1876. He died at the Clarke county hospital, July 9, 1954.

The family moved to Illinois while Frank was small and lived there for about 10 years. When he was about 15 years old he came to Clarke county with his parents.

He was married to Emma Klein of Murray on September 9, 1896. Seven children were born to them, six of whom survive. The oldest son, Earl Leslie, died on August 28, 1912. Surviving children are Ruby Grace Wetzel, Murray; Mary Helen Burd, Osceola; Wilber Glenn, Lorimor; Frances Gertrude Mills, Omaha; Edith Leona Youmans, Clinton; and Martha Mildred Busch, Los Angeles. There are 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Frank was a farmer all of his life until he retired and moved to Murray in 1945.

He was an active member of the Union Methodist church where he acted as superintendent of the Sunday school for many years. He also taught a class and was a leader of the church in many other fields. When Mr. and Mrs. McClelland moved to Murray they affiliated with the Methodist church there and he continued an active interest in the church until his death.

Coordinator's note: The McClellands lived in Madison County for a few years between 1900 and 1910. Two of their children were born in the county.
