Death of Mrs. Amanda Brown

The older residents of Fairview neighborhood will regret to hear of the death of Mrs. Amanda Brown, who lived in this county many years ago. The following tribute was sent from Saticoy, California.

“In the passing of Mrs. Amanda Brown there has gone from the Saticoy community one of our oldest inhabitants. “Grandma Brown” as she was familiarly called was born in Bedford, Indiana, September 18, 1838. She fell asleep September 7, 1923, lacking only a few days of reaching the ripe old age of 85. In 1888, she, with her husband came to California and established her home near Saticoy, in which she died. Her husband preceded her, having died in 1906.

More than eight years ago, Mrs. Brown was stricken with paralysis from which she never recovered. The funeral services were held in Ventura, September 9, and the body was laid to rest in the Santa Paula cemetery. She is survived by one son, David Brown.”
