September 7, 1939 - March 28, 2017

Ed Callison, 77, of Winterset, died as a result of heart complications due to battling COPD on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 31, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association or a local Winterset organization of the donor’s choice.

Edward Roy Callison, son of Roy and Helen (Percy) Callison, was born on September 7, 1939 in Winterset. He attended schools in the Winterset area and graduated from Winterset High in 1957. He joined the US Navy and served from 1957 to 1962. Ed was united in marriage to Joanne Pech on January 5, 1963 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and three children were born to this union. He acquired his A/C Mechanic certification from the Navy and later acquired his A&P license and worked for Continental and Frontier Airlines from 1967 to 1977. Ed and the family moved to Winterset in 1977 and took over the family farm and farmed until retiring in 2010.

Ed was a member of the Optimist Club, Madison County Cattleman Association, Cardiac Respiratory Coffee Club, and past board member of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fishing, 4-wheeling, gardening and traveling in his free time. Ed’s passion was working on his farm, whether it was maintaining his equipment or restoring tractors; he loved working on his land. He was a proud grandfather and cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. All this said, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend that will be greatly missed by all.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Joanne Callison of Winterset; three children, Dan Callison of Wellington, Co; Donna Sleeth of Norwalk; Stacy (Mark) Marean of Winterset; five grandchildren, Blaine (Amber) Callison; Jenna (Clay Roth) Callison; Darian Sleeth; Grant Marean; Lance Marean; two great grandchildren, Jaycie and Kaison Callison; sister, Connie (Gary) Bailey of Winterset; extended family and a host of friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Helen Callison.
