Mrs. Patrick Doud, after a brief illness of only a few hours with asthma of the heart, departed this life Monday morning, April 28, 1913, at 2:30. Mrs. Doud was at the home of her son, John, where she had made her home for many years.

Bridget Noon was born in 1823 in Leamore, County Roscommon, Ireland. She immigrated to America with her brother in 1852. She was married to Patrick Doud in Cincinnati, Ohio, April 25, 1856. Mr. and Mrs. Doud desirous of taking up land in a newer country came to Iowa in 1860, locating in Jackson township, Madison county. From there they moved into Adair county, Iowa, where they have lived continuously for about fifty four years.

There were four children born to this union—James and John of Stuart, Mrs. Lee Atchison of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and Mrs. James Waldron of Grimes, Iowa. They are all living and were present at the funeral.

The deceased fully enjoyed her long and useful life of ninety years. In her home or with a company of friends, she was the embodiment of mirth and good cheer. A youthful spirit was predominant in her nature, one scarcely realizing she was so advanced in years. At her death she looked to be about sixty. Coming to Iowa when the state was a vast prairie, neighbors and friends far apart and luxuries few, she always wore a smile and often added a ray of sunshine to many a homesick or discouraged friend. She was proud of her family and very fond of her twenty six grandchildren and her thirteen great grandchildren. Mr. Doud departed this life about nine years ago.

The last rites over the remains of Mr. Doud were held at the Catholic church Wednesday morning at 1030, conducted by Rev. M. D. McNamara, and the body interred in the new Catholic cemetery.

The relatives present beside the children from a distance were: niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. T. Gill, Friend, Neb.; Mrs. Catherine Aylward, niece; Martin Gilleran, cousin, Cumming, Iowa; John Malone, cousin, and daughter Kathryn, Mrs. Emmet Friel, cousin, Adair; Mrs. Donahue, cousin, Casey; Mrs. Miles Busby, niece, Des Moines.
