Eugene Mapes, the aged father of Vane Mapes residing at Bear Creek died very suddenly Monday. He and his son were returning from a day in Des Moines and when about two miles from home, he suffered a stroke and only lived about an hour after being taken home.

He was a former resident of Dexter, but had resided with his son since the death of his wife about eight years ago.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in Dexter, conducted by the Bear Creek pastor Mrs. Riddle.

Transcriber's note: The deceased lived in Madison County and was married there in 1880. His middle name is from his Iowa Death Certificate
