Information reached G. W. Armstrong and Mrs. O. M. Horton, of this city, last Friday that a cousin, Alex Armstrong, had died suddenly that day in Des Moines, where he was temporarily vising relatives.

The deceased was an ex-soldier, a son of Captain J. W. Armstrong and brother of J. C. Armstrong, all of whom were members of the 12th O.V.C., serving with distinction throughout the civil war, and who have been long time residents of this city, Patterson and Bevington. J. C. Armstrong, the brother, had removed to Des Moines and was in the employ of the C. R. I. & P. R. R. Co. as a builder, and while the Iowa soldiers occupied Camp McKinley, preparatory to the war with Spain, and while on a visit to the boys in camp, fell dead, caused by heart failure. His family continues to reside in that city and it is understood that Alex had just come to visit them when he was stricken and died in the same manner and apparently under like circumstances as his brother.

He had spent considerable time in this city and at Patterson a number of years ago and was well known to be an excellent workman, (carpenter) a freehearted, liberal and social man. His wife died many years ago.

Three children, (all grown) his aged father, one brother and numerous relatives survive him.
