Page 4Friends have recently received word of the death of Mrs. Ella Bowman Gawthrop, formerly of this city. Mrs. Gawthrops parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bowman, were residents of Monroe township for about thirty years and the daughter, Ella, was educated in the Winterset schools, graduating from the high school in the class of 1897. Four years later, she graduated from Des Moines college and then taught in the Winterset high school.
For three years, she taught in a Baptist college in Oakland, California. Here she met her husband, who was at that time field secretary of the college. Later he entered the ministry and at present is pastor of the Hamilton Square Baptist church, an institutional church and one of the largest in San Francisco.
Mrs. Gawthrop had sterling traits of character and her friends recognized in her true worth and merit. While a young lady she devoted herself to intellectual pursuits but after her marriage divided her time between her home and church duties. She was an ideal mother and a great help to her husband in church work. The world has great need for many such all around womenwomen who by their lives emphasize the worth while things.
Two sisters, her husband and two children, little girl of eight and a boy of five, are left in sorrow.
The remains were placed in a vault in San Francisco and will later be buried beside two children in Louisville, Kentucky.
