Dennis was born, May 7, 1942 in East Chicago, IL to William and Muriel (Higdon) Lowry. He died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA at 74.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Wednesday at the St. Charles Parish Church and family will greet friends one hour prior to the services.

At an early age the family moved to Des Moines. He graduated from Johnston High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. On March 30, 1968 he was united in marriage to Margery Black. Dennis followed his father's lead and he worked most of his life in the auto collision repair and refinishing business. He retired in 2006 after serving many years as instructor and chairperson of the Autobody Repair and Refinishing School at the DMACC campus in Ankeny.

For some years, with his wife he published a monthly newsletter "The American Toy Trucker" and developed a business making and selling parts to restore older toys; "The Toy Parts Peddler". He enjoyed traveling to toy shows, buying and selling and swapping stories but more important were the lasting friendships formed over the years. After retirement, he continued with his hobby, building and rebuilding toys and maintaining contact with fellow collectors
