Verna Mae Turnmire, age 98, of Osage, died Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage with Pastor Julie Schubert officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery in Osage. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Verna Mae Turnmire was born June 20, 1918, in Madison County, Iowa, the daughter of Ellis and Golda (Beaman) Estell. She received her education in the rural one-room schools of Madison County and graduated from Winterset High School in 1936. She attended business college in Des Moines and worked for several years as a legal secretary in Des Moines. Verna was united in marriage to William E. Turnmire on September 2, 1945, at her parents' home by Rev. W.A. Samo pastor of Winterset Methodist Church. They lived in Boston, Massachusetts until Mr. Turnmire was discharged from service in the Army. Since that time, she has resided in Osage and her later years were filled with traveling and spending winters in Texas.
Verna is survived by her daughter Karen Turnmire of Clearwater, Florida; her son Bill (Robin) Turnmire of Clinton Washington; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Verna is preceded by her parents; her husband, Bill in 1991; four sisters, Helen (Robert) Alexander, Bonnelle (Charlie) Heubrock, Thelma (Emrov) Klingaman, Doris (Loren) Goode; and her only brother, Wayne (Lois) Estell.
