Bonnie Bass, Winterset

Bonnie died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at her home in Winterset, she was 76.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 28, at the Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with a reception to follow. Memorials may be directed to Matura of Madison County for the assistance to families in need (1724 N. John Wayne Dr., Winterset, Iowa 50273).

Bonnie is survived by her son, Brian Bass and his wife, Chenda Yong of Orange, CA; brothers, David (Linda) Liston, of Mays Landing, NJ; Terry (Nancy) Liston of Pompano Beach, FL; five nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Violet (Brown) Liston.

Bonnie Hartwell Liston was born to Andrew and Violet (Brown) Liston in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on March 17, 1940. She graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School and went on to receive a BA from Florida State University. Later, she received her Masters from Drake University. Her marriage to Robert Bass took place in 1963 in Orlando, Florida and to this union a son, Brian was born.

Bonnie worked for the Winterset School District from 1965 to 2004 where many will recall her teaching 8th grade English.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Friends of the Winterset Public Library, having served as its President. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club and enjoyed sewing, quilting, scrapbooking and reading. She was passionate about genealogy and researched much of her family’s history. She also loved dogs, and made specialty teddy bears. All this said, she loved nothing more than time spent with her family and close friends.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Brian Bass and his wife, Chenda Yong of Orange, CA; brothers, David (Linda) Liston of Mays Landing, NJ and Terry (Nancy) Liston of Pompano Beach, FL; five nieces and nephews, Anita Foss, Julie Shaffer, Andy Liston, Shannon Stolzenfeld, and Mark Liston; extended family and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Violet (Brown) Liston.
