Mr. O. M. Archer, an old soldier and highly respected citizen, passed away Sunday morning at 11:30 at his home here after an illness of about a month.

A baby boy was born in Putman county, Indiana, April 30, 1841. He was named Oliver Milton. He grew in stature and in favor with God and man. He moved with his parents to Iowa and when a young man enlisted in his country’s service with Company H, 17th Regiment Iowa Infantry. He was wounded and honorably discharged.

A few years later he married Sarah J. Henkle. To this happy union were born four sons, D. H. of Akeley, Minn., G. L. of St. Charles, O. N. and J. W. of Truro. Sarah, his wife, passed away July 10, 1910. On February 18, 1914, he married Mrs. Jennie Scholes. They were so happy together until the good husband passed away Sunday morning, April 18th. She mourns with the four sons today. He leaves nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, three brothers and two sisters.

He joined the M. E. church when a boy, served as trustee for years and at the time of his death was a member of the M. E. church of Truro. He joined the Masonic lodge 35 years ago and was a member of the G.A.R. post at St. Charles.

Funeral service was held at the church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. James and Masonic services and burial took place at the Hartman cemetery south of Truro.
