PIONEER CITIZEN CALLED BY DEATH

Michael O’Loughlin, Long Time Resident of Douglas Township, Dies At Home of Terrance O’Loughlin Saturday.

Michael O’Loughlin, pioneer citizen of Douglas township, and one of the oldest residents of the county, died Saturday at the home of his brother, Terrance O’Loughlin, at the age of ninety years. Mr. O’Loughlin went to bed Friday night, apparently in his usual health. Early Saturday morning, his niece, Mrs. Agnes Hogan found him dressed, lying on his bed, dying.

Mr. O’Loughlin was born in County Clare, Ireland, September 12, 1836 and when twelve years old came to the United States. He went to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood, later coming to Winterset to settle in Douglas township. He returned to Fond du Lac to marry Bridget Welch, bringing his bride to Madison county. Mrs. O’Louglin died a year after her marriage and Mr. O’Loughlin continued to live alone until about eight years ago when he moved to Winterset. He was a fine old man, who grew with the county and aided in its early development and settlement.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s church Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, the Rev. Father Plunkett officiating. The body was taken to Fond du Lac where interment was made at St. Michael’s cemetery, Dotyville.

Mr. O’Loughlin is survived by his two brothers, Terrance O’Louglin, of Douglas township and Timothy O’Loughlin of Watertown, South Dakota and a number of nieces and nephews.
