Daniel W. Snyder was born August 28, 1829, near Millersburg, Holmes county, Ohio. His death occurred July 22, 1909, being 79 years, 10 months and 24 days old at the time of his death.

September 5th, 1851 he was married to Margaret Bilderback in Ohio and soon came to Adel, Iowa the same year. He lived part of the time at Mitchell’s Mill. To them were born three sons and three daughters. The wife died about ten years ago, one child died in infancy, and another, Rollin S. Snyder in the fall of 1894. Two sons and one daughter preceeded him to the future life.

The children living are Peter Snyder of Jefferson township, and Mrs. Orilla Thompson of Enid, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Levi Ahu of Pawnee City, Nebraska. All the children were present during the fathers last illness, but home duties called Mrs. Thompson back to Oklahoma, but was able to return for the funeral. Mr. Snyder has two brothers, Jonathan and Samuel Snyder, residing in Holmes county also.

About 25 years ago Daniel Snyder moved to the present homestead in Jefferson township, Madison county, and about 20 years ago joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Fairview. While a boy in Ohio he joined the Lutheran church and was trained in that church. He has lived an honorable life and supported the cause of Christ in this community by his money, sympathy and confession. The funeral was held at Fairview, July 24th. Rev. A. E. Foutch preached the sermon. Choir led by Mrs. Eva Barnett.

Relatives of the family present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. M. Bilderback of Newton, Mr. Thos. Bilderback and daughter, Effie, Joseph Bilderback and wife and Frank Bilderback and wife, of Dallas county, John Bilderback and wife and Mrs. Geo. Hodson, of Earlham.

Was Born in Holmes County.

Daniel W. Snyder, a former resident of Holmes county, died at his home in Madison county, Iowa, July 22, 1909. The deceased was born in Holmes county, about three miles southwest of Millersburg, Aug 28, 1829.

He was married to Margaret Bilderback, a daughter of Massom Bilderback who was a pioneer resident of Holmes county, in 1851, and the same year with his wife moved to Iowa.

Jonathan and Samuel Snyder former residents of Holmes county and a sister residing in Fairfield, Iowa, are the only surviving family members. Their father was the late Isaac Snyder, who prior to 1866, owned what is known as the Armor farm southwest of Millersburg, now owned by John W. Johnson.

The deceased had prospered in his Iowa home and leaves his two surviving daughters and one son considerable property. His eldest son died fourteen years ago and his wife ten years ago.
