Sylvia Van Werden

Sylvia L. Van Werden, widow of Bill, passed away Oct. 7, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Born March 26, 1936, to Carl and Sophia (Hill) Bartleson. She married William L. Van Werden on Oct. 11, 1958. She was a 1954 graduate of Forest City High School, and a 1958 graduate of Broadlawns School of Nursing. Sylvia was a registered nurse at Lincoln General Hospital for 32 years. She was an avid fan of Nebraska football and volleyball, Royals baseball, and Stetson University football. She loved traveling with family and spending summers at Leech Lake in Minnesota. Sylvia was a compassionate, loving and caring great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, mother-in-law, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Survived by son Charles Van Werden (Jill), grandchildren Tyler and Alyssa, Petoskey, Mich.; daughter Laura (Van Werden) Hughes (Roger), granddaughter Maddison, DeLand, Fla.; and son Paul Van Werden (Diane), grandchildren Kyle (Sandra), Nathan and Emily of Lincoln. Sisters; Carol Bartleson, Vivian McAdams, and Judy (Dave) Bengston, and brothers Hanford Bartleson (Dolores), and Tom Bartleson (Sue). In-laws, Larry Van Werden (Dottie); Jim Van Werden (Sue); Gretchen (Van Werden) Otto (Nelson); nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Sylvia's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations suggested to Capitol Humane Society of Lincoln.

Transcriber's Note: A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Sylvia L. Van Werden is the spouse of William L. "Bill" Van Werden, who was born in Winterset, graduated from Winterset High School and is buried in Winterset Cemetery.
