RUEL PALMER DIES AT OSCEOLA HOME

Ruel Palmer, long time resident of Madison county, died at his home near Osceola July 4th, at the age of seventy-six years. A native of Maine, Mr. Palmer came to the county in 1868 and settled near Barney. His marriage to Keziah Smith in 1873 united two well known Madison county families. The death of Mrs. Palmer occurred in 1915.

Mr. Palmer is survived by his widow, formerly Mrs. Almeda Prescott; Mrs. Laura Cornelison, of Thayer; Mrs. Carrie Hiskey, of Lorimor; Mrs. Sallie Osborn, of Winterset, are daughters who live in the vicinity of Winterset, as does a brother, Josiah Palmer, of Peru and a sister, Mrs. Ella Gilbert, of Barney.

Ruel Palmer aged 77 years 2 months and 17 days died at his home in Fremont Township Monday at 4:30 P. M. Funeral services will be held from the M.E. church at Barney today (Thursday) at 2 p. m. and burial will follow in the Barney cemetery.

The bereaved family has the sympathy of many friends in the hour of sorrow.

Ruel Palmer, eldest son of Charles and Hannah Palmer was born at Parkman, Maine, April 17, 1851, and departed this life at his home near Osceola, Iowa, July 4, 1927, age 76 years, 2 months, 17 days.

He came with his parents to Madison county, Iowa, at the age of 17. He was united in marriage to Keziah Smith Dec. 31, 1873.

To this union was born nine children, seven daughters and two sons. Two daughters died in infancy and Mrs. Palmer June 9, 1915. The surviving children are: Mrs. Alice Willows, Carrington, No. Dak.; Mrs. Laura Cornelison, Thayer; Mrs. Carrie Hiskey, Lorimor; Mrs. Sallie Osburn, Winterset; Mrs. Flora Chapman, Woodburn; Cap and Robert Palmer, Osceola, Iowa, all of whom were present at his bedside at the time of his death. Mr. Palmer was married to Mrs. Almeda Prescott of New Port, Maine, July 3, 1916.

Besides his wife and children he leaves six brothers, Benjamin of Three Lakes, Wis., Llewellyn of Baraboo, Wis., Josiah of Peru, Iowa, Alman of Kamahi, Idaho, Braddie of Washington. Mrs. Savannah Whitworth, Alberta Canada, Gorham Palmer and Mrs. Ella Gilbert of Barney, Iowa, also 28 grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial took place at Barney, Thursday, July 7 at 2:30 p.m.
