Page 1, Column 3C. A. ELDRIDGE DIES AT AGE OF 91 YEARS
Was Former Merchant in Winterset and Deputy Sheriff
C. A. Eldridge, former Winterset business man and deputy sheriff, and a resident of Madison county nearly all of his life, died at the Peterson Nursing home in Winterset Friday, Dec. 24. He was 91 years of age.
Mr. Eldridge had been in failing health for several months, and his death was caused by a stroke.
Born in South township Sept. 11, 1857, he was the son of William and Rebecca Ray Eldridge. Most of his life was spent on the South township farm where he was born. He served as Madison county deputy sheriff for four years, and later spent a number of years in the grocery business in Winterset as a member of the firm of McAndrew and Eldridge. He also spent five years in Missouri. In recent years he had been living on the South township farm where he was born. He had been a member of the Masonic order since 1882.
He was married Jan. 12, 1882, to Susan Emma Hicks of Winterset. Her death occurred in 1939. He is survived by three children, Flora and Dennie Eldridge at home, and Raymond Eldridge of Lorimor.
Funeral services were held from the Watts funeral home at Lorimor, Dec. 27, in charge of the Rev. Claude Calkins. Burial was (the rest is unreadable).
