Tommy Clopton, born in Missouri and brought as an infant to Winterset in 1860, died Saturday.

Tommy’s father went to war in ’62 and died in one of the southern states. Tommy had several brothers and sisters. On Asbury, older brother, and Tommy, fell the job of keeping the family. One of the things any old resident of Winterset will remember was the boy’s ox team hauling anything they could get to haul, over the streets. They made a fair living at first and a good living as they grew older.

Tommy never made much money and did not care for it very much, for he took life easily, as it came, as did his brother Asbury, and enjoyed every day. He never made an enemy and died with the friendship of every person who knew him well.
