Mary Frances Hatfield, daughter of Marion and Ruth (Brewer) Hatfield, was born December 21, 1931 in Siluria, Alabama. She moved to Iowa from Alabama with her mother when she was 14. She attended the Macksburg Schools and enjoyed playing basketball before graduating from Macksburg High School in 1950. Mary Frances was united in marriage with John King on September 24, 1950 in Macksburg.

Fran was a homemaker raising her sons and later worked as a secretary for an insurance agency and construction business before retiring from bookkeeping at the Easters Grocery Store in Creston.

She was a member of the Macksburg United Methodist Church. Fran enjoyed gardening and canning the produce from her garden. She was very knowledgeable about antique pottery and glassware and put her keen eye to use at the numerous auctions she and John attended. Fran always dressed up and took pride in her appearance. All this said, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who cherished nothing more than the time spent with her loved ones.

She was preceded in by her parents and a step-father, Chet Haymond.
