Doris Marjorie Smith, daughter of Willard and Bernice (Cook) Hadley, was born May 2, 1924 in Dallas County, Iowa.  Marjorie attended the Earlham Schools and graduated from Earlham High in 1942.  She later obtained her Nursing Diploma in 1975 from Iowa Lutheran Hospital.   Marjorie was united in marriage with Edwin R. Smith on August 22, 1943 at the First United Methodist Church in Earlham.

Marjorie worked as a Nurse at the Dexter Hospital, the Earlham Care Center, and Madison County Public Health.  She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Earlham and also sung in the choir.  She was a lifetime member of the Earlham Eastern Star and participated in numerous clubs.  Marjorie enjoyed quilting, sewing, antiquing and was an avid reader. She cherished the memories from the many family vacations, especially when they went camping (with all of the amenities).  Marjorie was a talented cook and loved to try new recipes when entertaining her family and friends.  Above all else, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who treasured the time she was able to spend with her family and friends.
