Hassel A. Smith

Hassel A. Smith, 60, of 415 39th St., Moline, died at 1:15 Saturday afternoon in Lutheran Hospital.

Service will be at 3 tomorrow afternoon in Wendt Brothers Funeral Home, Moline, with the Rev. Walter Batty, pastor of Aldersgate Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 6, 1896, in Osceola, IA. The son of Wiliam and Henrietta Smith. He attended schools in Truro, IA., the College of Des Moines and taught school at Truro.

On May 28, 1918 he married Reva Olive James in Des Moines. For Many years he served as the Sunday school superintendent for the Christian Church, Truro. The couple moved to Moline in 1934.

He was employed as a salesman for the L. W. Bartlett Specialty Advertising Co. of Des Moines.

Surviving are the widow; his parents, Truro two daughters, Mrs. Donald L. Gordon and Mrs. Keith F. Nelson, both of Moline; three brothers, George D., St. Charles, Ia. And Ormil B. and Larroe A., both of Oakland, Calif; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Yeaman, Wadsworth O., and Mrs. Nay Mahaffa, Oakland, Calif, and three grandchildren.
