Pneumonia Takes Long Time Resident—Funeral Services Held There Saturday
John Woodward, long time resident of Waukee, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 18th following an illness due to plural pneumonia. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St. Boniface church with Rev. Father O’Neil in charge. Old friends who acted as pall bearers were Charles Broderick, John Weil, Irvin Robison, Frank Forret, Alonzo Copeland and Harry Copeland. Burial was at St. Patrick’s cemetery, near Cummings.
John Woodward was a native Iowan, having been born in Lee Co. in 1873.
He was educated in the public schools where his interest never abated.
He lived for his home, his church and community betterment. At an early age, he became a Catholic convert and joined the church, which blessed and comforted him throughout his remaining years.
In 1903 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Prey at Casey. To this union four children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, brother and his four year old son, Francis Thomas.
Mr. Woodward leaves to mourn his departure his wife, son John and two daughters, Mrs. Ray Danielson and Miss Ileen Woodward. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. E. W. Holmes of Anita, Mrs. E. W. Ellison, Mrs. Alice Peterson, two brothers, Charles and Henry of Des Moines and four grandchildren, Robert and Phillip Danielson and Francis and John Woodward, Jr.
