V. E. Payne died here this (Monday) morning, Jan. 10th, after a long and painful illness. For many years he was afflicted with nervous trouble. He leaves his wife, one son and one daughter.

V. E. Payne passed away Monday morning after a brief illness. He has been an invalid for many years. Mr. Payne came to St. Charles about 25 years ago and was in the mercantile business for a few years until afflicted with a nervous trouble from which he never recovered. His funeral was held Wednesday morning and the remains laid away in the St. Charles cemetery. He leaves a wife, one son, Guy, of Chicago, and one daughter, Veta Smith, of St. Charles.
